QinetiQ website

QinetiQ is a new science and technology powerhouse formed from the major part of DERA, the British Government's elite defence research and development organisation. With an unrivalled track record in applied science and technology, it is poised to become a world leading business solutions provider.

QinetiQ Systems and Software Engineering Centre, was established in 1994 as a centre of excellence to be the preferred supplier of professional systems and software engineering services to Government and Industry.

We define, demonstrate, research and disseminate engineering best practice, process improvement and competency frameworks. In particular, we generate the system and software practices that apply to our own operations and standardise practices throughout QinetiQ.

These practices are continuously maturing within an overall Business Management Systems that is registered within the ISO 9001 and TickIT schemes. We are heavily involved in EFQM BEM, SPICE and CMM developments, and are regularly subject to process assessments. QinetiQ is part of the EuroSPI consortium and is very prominent within ISO/IEC 15504 activities and in worldwide CMM assessments.

QinetiQ facilities include modern technology supported by a large supply of commonly available computing resources, together with many standard business and technical software products.

We manage a technology transfer forum with over 30 software companies, and have access to the vast capabilities and application knowledge within QinetiQ. As such we are well positioned to maximise the dissemination and technology transfer of the MODIST project through its links with the systems and software industry.

QinetiQ Core Business

Core Business: QinetiQ is Europe's largest science and technology organisation, with an incomparable base of scientific expertise and experience. We apply our wealth of knowledge to give companies, small and large alike, a distinct competitive advantage.

Exploitation plan: QinetiQ will develop generic and tailored BBNs, use its understanding of the market to promote the method/tool as it is progressively developed, and will provide an innovative SPC/BPC method for integration into QinetiQ's software development practices. This will enhance our ability to manage and deliver measurable software quality, especially within our distributed development e-business systems.

QinetiQ's role in the growth area of assessing e-business distributed systems will be enhanced by the use of MODIST methods. QinetiQ will continue to develop the use of the SPC/BPC concepts for use in system engineering, procurement, risk management and certification.

QinetiQ will gain access to the latest thinking on SPC and SPI methods and tools, this will benefit business by displaying an advanced approach to SPI measurement and control. With its wide user base, presence in Europe and its involvement with the contribution of tutorials and papers to the EuroSPI and ESCOM conferences, QinetiQ is able lead the MODIST dissemination activities.

Anticipated impact on core business: QinetiQ's involvement with CMM developments and application should greatly benefit from the development of a SPI decision support system, of which SPC/BPC is an essential risk-based measurement ingredient. QinetiQ's business will also benefit from MODIST by developing its technical capability to support a range of potential EU-wide customers interested in implementing SPC approaches. QinetiQ's major influence on its pan-European suppliers and future engineering and quality practices and standards will be fully exploited.

QinetiQ will also extend its key involvement in international standards production to address further aspects of software product quality, e.g. ISO 9126
