Distributed Software DevelopmentMODIST meets the growing business need to distribute software development to make the most effective use of resources, whether across sites, organisations, market sectors or nations. Teams performing different roles - such as customer, prime supplier, component supplier, design authority, integrator - have different interactions, communication flows, constraints and risks. While offering many benefits, distributed working does introduce additional risks: managing communications, especially across physical and time zone separation reconciling different cultures, processes and standards. So managers need greater support in assessing risk and predicting quality in order to maintain adequate control of a distributed software development project. MODIST therefore caters for projects that involve multiple teams who are potentially applying different processes and standards, and includes factors such as the quality of communications. The MODIST toolset itself can also be installed in a web-enabled form so that distributed teams can share access to project models. Note however that MODIST can equally be applied to non-distributed software development. |
